What is and Who is TUPUJUME
We are an association of individuals with intellectual disabilities from Alcalá de Henares, founded in mid-June 2017. Currently, 62 young people and their families, along with 18 monitors, make up this great group.
The main goal of Tupujume is the personal growth of all our young members, offering alternatives such as educational instruction, personal autonomy, social skills, job training, leisure activities, and of course, sports. All of this is always based on working with respect for others.
We work so that our young people learn to read, write, and perform basic math operations, to be able to manage on their own; to use money without their families fearing someone might take advantage of them; to navigate their city both on foot and using public transportation; to carry out household tasks so that when the time comes, they can live independently; to be able to access a decent job and know how to behave in a work environment; to build friendships and know how to interact with both familiar and unfamiliar people.
One of the most important aspects of TUPUJUME’s development is sports.
One of the most successful activities at Tupujume is indoor soccer (futsal), with 23 young players divided into 2 teams, registered in the Femaddi League. In the current 2019–2020 season, Tupujume has also formed a basketball team consisting of 13 players.
The R.S.D. Alcalá Foundation collaborates with TUPUJUME by covering the costs of licenses and sports equipment for the teams.
